CEO'S MESSAGE

Welcome and thank you for taking the time to visit The Australian Thyroid Foundation (ATF) website.

The ATF’s public pages of our website are designed to give a preview of thyroid information, a summary of the organisation, member registration, with an online shop and payment access.  Please explore the menu and read all you can about thyroid disorders, testing, treatments and medications.  The ATF Member’s Section holds all our member information, education and much more. Once you have registered as a member, you will receive an email which will allow you to logon to the Member’s Section.  Ongoing ATF membership allows you to continue to receive regular up-to-dated patient information, via our newsletter, Thyroid News.  One-on-one support is available to members and we are here to support and help you through your thyroid journey.  Please consider joining as a member to benefit from all the ATF member services.

The ATF is honoured and privileged to have Professor Creswell Eastman AM as Principal Medical Advisor along with Chief Medical Advisor’s Professor Bruce Robinson AC, Professor Leigh Delbridge, Associate Professor Julie Miller, Professor Duncan Topliss, Professor Jack Wall, Pharmacist - Dr Geraldine Moses and Dietitian and Nutritionist - Susie Burrell.

I am as passionate today, as I was when I became ATF President in 1999. My title was changed to CEO in 2016. Leading the ATF’s Executive Committee has given me the opportunity to work with other dedicated members who volunteer their time and expertise to the ATF.  The Executive Committee ensures our member services are meeting our member’s needs with advocacy and support, community awareness about iodine deficiency and thyroid disorders continues and the ATF’s growth as the Australian Thyroid Patient Support, Education and Advocacy Organisation for thyroid disorders and iodine deficiency continues.

I have had the opportunity during the years as President and CEO, to represent the ATF at thyroid medical conferences, here in Australia and around the world. Meeting and listening to presentations given by thyroid specialist doctors and researchers who devote their life’s work to improve treatments, medications and outcomes for thyroid patients has been a rewarding learning experience and very beneficial for the ATF. Being able to pass on medical research outcomes to our members, enables our members to have the most up-to-date information, allowing them to discuss the best choices with their treating doctors.

The ATF is a member of Thyroid Federation International (TFI), a world-wide thyroid patient organisation dedicated to global action of thyroid related issues. The ATF is also a proud honorary patient member of the Endocrine Society of Australia (ESA) and the Asia Oceania Thyroid Association (AOTA).

If you or one of your family have been affected by some form of thyroid disorder, I encourage you to become a member of The ATF. Having access to our member services and information will empower you to discuss with your treating doctor what’s best for you and your thyroid health.

The ATF was founded in 1995 and I am very proud the ATF continues to reach out to the Australian community with awareness and helping patient through their thyroid journey.  Your membership, donations and merchandise purchases will ensure the ATF continues to support future generations of Australians to benefit from good thyroid health.

Thank you,

Beverley Garside OAM
